Toyota bZ4X: Malaysia-bound all-electric SUV in detailed pictures

The Bangkok International Motor Show 2022 has kickstarted in the Land of Smiles with several new car models on display. One of them is Toyota’s first pure-electric SUV, the bZ4X, which is also earmarked for launch in Malaysia sooner or later. Today, we will discuss the Toyota bZ4X in detail with the help of several images, but before that let’s take a look at its technical specifications and estimated pricing.

Hailing from the ‘beyond Zero’ series, the bZ4X is the brand's first EV underpinning the e-TNGA platform, the one on which the Subaru Solterra is also based. The platform is jointly developed by the two Japanese automakers.

In the international market, Toyota offers the bZ4X in both all-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive configurations, however, we still do not which of these will be coming to Malaysia. The FWD comes with a single motor delivering a maximum power output of 204 PS, while the AWD is packed with two 109 PS motors combinedly making 218 PS. 

In terms of performance, the former takes 8.4 seconds to clock the century sprint while the latter finished the same task in 7.7 seconds. Both variants are coupled with the same 71.4 kWh battery pack that supports both AC and DC charging. The bZ4X range is rated at 460 km on a single full charge. 

If we talk about the Toyota bZ4X price in Malaysia, the estimation sets around RM 250,000 mark with reference to UK pricing that starts at £41,950 (RM 234,400).

It’s time for a detailed look at the Toyota bZ4X gallery.

At first impression, the bZ4X EV looks bold and modern. It underpins the "Hi-Tech and Emotion," design theme that combines an advanced BEV feel with the inherent beauty of cars. 

The front view of the EV sports an aerodynamic design with a curved shaped bumper highlighting a certain uniqueness from other cars. A large hammerhead shark-like shape running from the hood to the top of the headlights gives the electric SUV a sleek silhouette. 

At the rear, the SUV poses a powerful stance thanks to stylish wraparound LED rear lamps, and the back door and bumper’s trapezoidal theme.

The side profile looks rugged with the wheel arches don up with black hosting 20-inch alloy wheels. 

Toyota bZ4X also comes with a solar roof panel that generates electricity equivalent to 1,800 km of driving distance (per year) that adds to the EV’s cruising range. When no charging outlet is available, users can charge EVs in parking lots. This feature is also helpful in the case of disasters or other emergencies.

On the inside, Toyota’s first pure EV continues to look futuristic with edgy styling and premium finishes. As per Toyota, every minute detailing of the car is engineered purposefully to create a sense of connection.

The driver’s centric designed cockpit starts right away with the unique instrument panel and precision-placed MID screen. The 7.0-inch display promotes the brand’s "hands on the wheel, eyes on the road" philosophy. 

The steering wheel boasts a wing-like shape, reminiscent of the yoke setup of the Tesla Model S.

The large infotainment display comes with the latest connectivity features, enhanced voice-recognition function, and over-the-air (OTA = wireless) software updates. The latter improves the performance as per the latest preventive safety package, Toyota Safety Sense, and the multimedia system without visiting the Toyota dealership.

Furthermore, the system adopts cloud navigation that provides traffic information and parking space availability information in a timely manner. Available as the BEV specialised services are driving support display, driving range display, and charging station display.

Toyota also offers a Digital Key with the BEV. By pairing the key with the smartphone, the users can unlock, lock the system without screen operations. This key can also be exchanged between different smartphones.

When it comes to cabin space, the Toyota bZ4X is extra wide thanks to the BEV-dedicated platform. It offers class-leading legroom for front and rear seats in the mid-SUV segment.

On top of that, a large panoramic roof, high soundproofing glass, and wind-noise reduction make it a lively space.

The luggage capacity of the bZx4 measures 452 litres, which seems enough to hold the stuff of five passengers on board.
