TMJ’s cars – The Royal Arsenal
“Royalty is a scarcity, If you own it, you should boast it."
We can learn this very well from the Tunku Mahkota of Johor (Crown Prince), an automotive enthusiast who splurges a huge load of royal money on his arsenal of cars. TMJ's life has always been a tapestry of rich and royal hue. The royal family of Johor has always been in news for their rich car collection and one such moment revived the memory recently when The Tunku Mahkota Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, made his way out of Shangri-La Hotel to witness the Malaysia Super League football match between Johor Darul Ta’zim FC and Felda United. This Royal entourage was moved on the high-end trademark armada of Dodge, Lamborghini and Mercedes-Benz. This lineup was one of a kind with a diversified fleet of latest wheels likes never seen before.
The first car leading the convoy was a classic American muscle beast, a green Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, one of the heavily acclaimed muscle cars at the moment. These muscles are animated to life by a 6.2 litre Hemi V8 engine churning out a ludicrous 707 hp and 880 Nm of torque with a whopping acceleration of 0-100 Km/h in 3.6 sec, making it a perfect vehicle to take the lead roaring out loud.
The American Hellcat was uniquely followed by the German sports luxury coupe Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. It was something rare adding more bling to the royal fleet with its matte finished grey colour. The royal family has earlier held a wide block of Mercedes-Benz AMG, but this long nose and cab-back proportions was something left to behold. The SLR McLaren spotted was a 722 Edition guise powered with a supercharged 5.5 litre V8, packing a 33 more horsepower for a grand total of 650 and a brain freezing acceleration of 0 to 100 Km/h in a short span of 3.6 seconds, two-tenths quicker than the standard SLR, what else to think then!
Following these luxury chariots, came out shining an epitome of speed and performance, the all-new Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4. This car might not be very popular in this side of the world, especially the milquetoast white, but when there a long italic chrome emblem states “Lamborghini”, one cannot think beyond its aura. After all, it's a Lambo. Powered by a 5.2 Litre V10 procuring a massive energy of 602 hp with a maximum torque of 560 Nm and an acceleration of 0-100 Kmph in mere 2.5 seconds, catapulting the Royal prince out of the frenzied crowd in seconds.
But behind these masterpieces comes out another German finesse stealing the spotlight with its yellow and black glaze, a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Edition. This car is bestowed generously by the Mercedes-Benz loading with a unique set of extroverted wings-and-spoilers aesthetically hiding a 6.2 litre V8 churning out 622 hp and a herculean torque of 634 nm.
All this facade of sports and adrenaline clears up when we see a hidden symbol of power and performance aptly representing the royal family a brawny British luxury, Bentley Continental GT3-R. This limited-edition British brute is serving the Johor prince in its own skin featuring a 6.0 litre W12 engine pushing out 572 hp and 700 Nm. This palace on the wheel can catapults to 100 Kmph from a standstill in a meagre time span of 3.6 seconds. The outside green strips and rear spoilers symbolise Bentley's GT genes in this car.
The final chapter of this luxury fleet surpasses the units of power and size, overshadowing the sports toys, appearing as a car, or literally a truck on the prince's parade – a Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6×6. This last chariot was anchored on six wheels proving the 6x6 statement true in its own terms. Beneath the hood of this all-terrain vehicle lies a rumbling beast of 5.5 litres Biturbo V8 whisking out a 536 hp and 758 Nm torque, equally distributed over its 6 wheels. This massive energy is sent to its 37-inch tyres on rugged bead-plate wheels, making this car a circus on the busy streets of KL city.
Well, If that's how a prince lives, I would rather be one, in next birth!
