Thailand will soon get the Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only recently that Toyota Taiwan added the Corolla Cross GR Sport to its lineup and now we hear that Toyota Thailand will benefit from the model. Though the exact launch date is not revealed, the GR Sport model is said to arrive before the 2021 Thailand International Motor Expo (starting from 1st December 2021).

The Thai-spec Toyota Corolla GR Sport will be powered by an Atkinson-cycle 2ZR-FXE petrol engine making 98 PS and 142 Nm of torque. Paired to the mill is a 72 PS/163 Nm e-motor. The total system output rests at 122 PS and the drive is sent to the front wheels via a CVT unit (info source Headlight Magazine). In contrast, the Taiwan dedicated model got an additional 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit generating maximum power of 140 PS and a peak torque of 172 Nm.

Enough about the Corolla Cross GR Sport engine configuration, let us now discuss its stylish exterior. It goes without saying that the Corolla Cross GR Sport trim differs from the standard model. The differentiating bit on the outside include -

• A new bumper design
• High-mounted fog lamps with black trim
• Massive grille with mesh design
• Lower intake with mesh design
• Front & rear bumper lower edge & side sills get rugged metal-like trim
• Two-tone paint (black roof)

The changes/revisions aren’t just limited to the outside, the cabin gets GR-branded visuals making sure everyone knows the car’s special attribute. So, it has the GR branding on the 9-inch infotainment screen’s boot sequence, seat headrest, and engine start button.

The automaker is yet to reveal Corolla Cross GR Sport pricing details, however, the Taiwan model retails for 875,000 New Taiwan dollars (RM 131,094) and the hybrid costs 945,000 New Taiwan dollars (RM 141,581).
