Tesla Model Y bookings open in Malaysia, price announced

KUALA LUMPUR: Tesla is one step closer to making its official arrival in Malaysia with the reveal of the local-spec Model Y specifications and price. The American EV giant has also started accepting bookings for the electric SUV via tesla.com/en_my/modely / tesla.com/en_my

Tesla Malaysia offers the Model Y in three variants - Model Y (Rear-wheel drive), Model Y Long Range, and Model Y Performance. The prices are mentioned below -

Included in the price is a 4-year or 80,000 km manufacturing warranty and a 8-year or 160,000 km Battery & Drive Unit Warranty.

The Tesla Model Y price also factors in full import and excise duties exemption and a 100% road tax exemption. Also, buyers can claim an individual income tax relief of up to RM 2,500 on expenses incurred on the cost of installation, rental, purchase, or subscription fees for EV charging facilities for the assessment year of 2023.

Let’s get to know the Model Y in detail -

The Tesla Model Y is the best-selling all-electric SUV in the world. It is the brand’s first mass-market sports utility electric vehicle, which aims to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

The base-spec Model Y RWD comes fitted with a rear electric motor, enabling the EV to sprint from zero to 100 kmph in 6.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 217 kmph. The WLTP-claimed driving range stands at 455 km. 

The other two, Model Y Long Range and Performance trims, are powered by a dual motor all-wheel drive setup that allows the car to complete a century sprint in 5.0 seconds (in 4.5 seconds with Acceleration Boost). The top speed remains unchanged at 217 kmph for the Long Range model; however, it increases to 250 kmph for the Performance model.

Speaking of the range, the Model Y Long Range can run for 533 km on a single charge, while the Model Y Performance offers a range of 514 km.

Feature-wise, the upcoming American EV will come equipped with an all-glass roof, active safety features, autopilot, and a HEPA air filtration system. It is also touted as one of the safest SUVs in the world with a perfect 5-star NHTSA and Euro NCAP rating

Tesla Model Y colour choices include - Pearl White, Solid Black, Midnight Silver Metallic, Deep Blue Metallic, and Red Multi-Coat colour.

The deliveries of the EV will commence early next year.
