Suzuki's mid-size SUV based on Toyota RAV4 revealed
KUALA LUMPUR: Suzuki has revealed its new mid-size SUV in Europe, called ACross. The car is the product of the Suzuki-Toyota partnership that involves the sharing of models between the two Japanese automakers. As for the ACross, it is based on Toyota's rising star, the RAV4, and would be first launched in Europe in the coming months.
The Suzuki ACross is currently the biggest SUV in the automaker's global lineup, once launched, it will sit above the Vitara. Here are a few highlights of Suzuki's latest offering -
- The ACross shares its underpinnings along with most of its body panels with the RAV4 SUV sold globally
- The new SUV's design language is expected to resemble the upcoming Toyota Corolla Cross SUV, the low-cost RAV4
- In terms of dimensions, the Suzuki ACross is quite similar to the Toyota RAV4.
- The table given below gives full details:
Length | 4635 mm |
Width | 1855 mm |
Height | 1690 mm |
Wheelbase | 2690 mm |
Boot space | 490 litres |
- Coming to the drivetrain, Suzuki SUV borrows its powertrain from the new RAV4 Plug-in hybrid. It gets a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 175 hp. This mill is paired to two electric motors one on each axle - the front one producing 182 hp/270 Nm and rear one pumping 54 hp/121 Nm
- Suzuki ACross has a top speed of 180 kmph
- Power is sent to all-four wheels via Suzuki's E-Four electronic 4X4 system. Combine power output is not confirmed, but in ACross it produces over 300 hp, making it more potent than the RAV4
- The SUV comes with four driving modes - EV, Auto EV/HV, HV, and battery charger
- Under the floor is mounted 18.1kWh battery, which allows the SUV to travel 75 km on electric power alone. Under the battery mode, the ACross can reach up to 135 kmph
- On the inside, the car tallies the RAV4 with some minor tweaks. It gets a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is turned with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Dual-zone climate control and ventilated front seats add to the utility feature list
It also offers a lot of storage space - On the safety front, the car is loaded with driving assist features like Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pre-Collision System, Blind Spot Monitor, Lane Tracing Assist, and Rear Crossing Traffic Alert
As for its arrival in the ASEAN market, it's rather far-fetched. In the Europen market, it will be launched in August 2020 and will be positioned as a top-end SUV offering.
