Suzuki Jimny returns to Europe as a light commercial vehicle
KUALA LUMPUR: In January, there were reports suggesting the disappearance of five-door Jimny from the European market. Back then, it was considered just another rumour; however, now it may seem otherwise. Suzuki recently announced the arrival of a commercial two-seater Jimny to Europe.
The two-seater Jimny features a large flat floor luggage compartment along with safety cargo protection. It is said to be perfect for small businesses. Now, the fact is that the two-seater Jimny is the only chance the model has to survive in Europe. Why? Well, it will be classified as a commercial vehicle, and this segment has lower emission restrictions on the continent compared to regular cars. As per WLTP standards, the two-seater Jimny returns 173 grams CO2/km, which is way above the non-commercial light vehicle emission standards in Europe.
For the same reason, the new two-seater commercial Jimny showcases the same uncompromising off-roading performance as the standard four-seater model. The new LCV Jimny also rides on the tried and tested ladder frame and benefits from Suzuki's Allgrip-Pro part-time 4WD system with low range transfer gear.
Coming to the Jimny's cargo area, a vast flat floor follows the rear seat with a capacity of 863 litres, 33-litres more than standard Jimny (with rear seat folded). The cargo compartment also comes with a new safety partition that restricts items from moving into the cabin and acts as a separator between the front seat and cargo area.
The Jimny LCV is powered by the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine making 100 hp of power, which is found in the standard model.
This is the only information we have of the Jimny LCV. Stay tuned with Zigwheels Malaysia for the latest update on the subject.
