KUALA LUMPUR: After a long wait, the smart #1 EV is finally up for grabs in Malaysia. Distributed via Proton’s subsidiary Pro-Net, the all-electric smart SUV is available in three different variants locally viz. Pro, Premium, and Brabus.

    Based on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, the smart #1 measures 4,270 mm in length (the Brabus variant is 4,300 mm long), 1,822 mm in width, and 1,636 mm in height, and spans a 2,750-mm long wheelbase. The boot space measures up to 411 litres, which is expandable up to 986 litres with rear seats folded.

    Smart #1 powertrain, range, and charging

    The Smart #1 Pro and Premium are powered by a single rear-wheel-drive motor churning out 272 PS of maximum power and 343 Nm of peak torque. It comes paired with three drive modes - Eco, Comfort, and Sport. The Brabus variant, on the other hand, runs on an all-wheel drive dual-motor setup that makes 428 PS and 543 Nm. Here, we get one extra drive mode viz. Brabus.

    When it comes to battery packs, the base-spec Pro is equipped with a 49 kWh LFP battery offering a range of 315 km (on the WLTP cycle). On the contrary, the Premium and Brabus versions feature a 66 kWh ternary (NCM) pack with a driving range of 440 km on the Premium and 400 km on the Brabus.

    As for charging, the EV supports both AC and DC charging. The 150 kW DC unit can juice up 10 to 80% battery in 29 minutes only.

    The standard exterior kit of the electric SUV comprises CyberSparks LED headlamps with daytime running lights, manual headlamp levelling, roof rails, a power tailgate, and 19-inch amp alloy wheels.

    The Premium variant adds an illuminated front grille, Matrix LED headlamps with adaptive high beam function, auto headlamp levelling, a power tailgate with kick sensor, auto LED sequential turn signals (front and rear), and 19-inch rotor alloy wheels. With the Brabus trim exclusively comes a Brabus aero kit and 19-inch dynamo alloy wheels.

    With the higher-spec models, customers also get autonomous parking assist, full autonomous parking, and a parking emergency brake.
