this new function allows vehicle owners to share their e-LKM with family members, friends, or other authorized individuals who are permitted to drive the vehicle. What if the car has a physical road tax?
Those who are not ready to use the app can still opt for physical road tax and LMM during an interim digitalization period in 2024He explained that this new function allows vehicle owners to share their e-LKM with family members, friends, or other authorized individuals who are permitted to drive the vehicle. To share the e-LKM, owners simply need have the MyJPJ app and select the vehicle's license plate number and then click the ‘Kongsi LKM’ button.
This feature also includes a time limit for sharing, set by the vehicle owner, and requires an activation code that must be given to the recipient to enable the share. The system will automatically delete the sharing record if it is not activated within 24 hours.
According to Loke, this update to the MyJPJ app was introduced to resolve issues faced by those driving borrowed vehicles. Previously, people were allowed to print the e-LKM, but due to various issues, improvements were made for user convenience.
Loke also mentioned that the Ministry plans to introduce security paper to replace physical vehicle license stickers and driving licenses (LMM).
A study and statistical analysis conducted in 2023 by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) showed an increase in drivers and vehicle owners opting for digitalization, involving 7.5 million users.
However, those who are not yet ready can still opt for physical road tax and LMM during an interim digitalization period in 2024. During this time, JPJ will issue new and standard physical road tax and LMM in the form of security paper only.
He added that the new road tax does not need to be affixed or displayed on vehicle windows as required by Section 20(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
