Seven-seater Volkswagen Talagon unveiled at the Auto Shanghai

KUALA LUMPUR: In a world full of SUVs and crossovers, the German auto giant Volkswagen revealed yet another SUV in the Chinese market, dubbed as Talagon. Manufactured locally in collaboration with FAW, it is said to be the largest SUV spawned by the brand’s MQB platform. The seven-seater model looks even bigger than the already bulky VW Teramont/Atlas.

Speaking about the precise dimensions, the new Talagon measures 5,152 mm in length, 2,002 mm in width, 1,795 mm in height, and has a wheelbase length of 2,980 mm. This means it is 112 mm longer, 15 mm taller and 12 mm wider than the Chinese Teramont.

Design-wise, the new Volkswagen Talagon looks modern with the elements like a black hexagonal mesh grille at the front and sharp LED headlights connected by a chrome bar with a VW logo in the middle. The SUV’s bumper looks busy with pointed fog lights, a lower grille intake, and a silver skid plate. Other exterior highlights are a sloping roofline with roof rails, side body cladding, dual chrome exhaust tips, wraparound LED tail lights, rear skid plate, and dual-tone wheels.

Inside, the SUV boasts two seating layouts - six and seven, with the seats outfitted in leather with contrast stitching and piping. The modern-designed dashboard hosts a free-floating large touchscreen display just adjacent to the digital instrument panel. Other features include a three-spoke steering wheel, ambient lighting, and a massive sunroof. 

Volkswagen will offer the new Talagon in different engine configurations, sitting on the top is a 2.5-litre turbocharged V6 mill capable of generating a maximum power of 295 hp and a peak torque of 500 Nm. For sending power to the ground, there will be a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. As for safety, we can expect this luxury SUV to be packed with enough driver-assistance aids.  

Alongside the new Talagon, Volkswagen also showcased the new ID.6 electric SUV and updated Teramont at the show.
