KUALA LUMPUR: While the year approaches its end, the excitement in the Malaysian automotive market shows no signs of fading. The country is about to welcome its first-ever Malaysian-brand EV. Yes, we are talking about the Proton e.MAS 7, a model that has already made several public appearances in different kinds of wraps. Well, all those quirky wraps are finally set to come off next week.

    Proton is all set to launch the e.MAS 7 on December 16, 2024, which will probably be the biggest launch of the year.

    As a quick recap, the upcoming Proton EV is co-developed with Geely with a team of 230 Proton engineers and designers contributing 700,000 man-hours. To make it fine-tuned for the local roads, the EV has undergone extensive testing, including 10 million kilometres of driving, 30,000 kilometres for durability, and 100,000 kilometres for reliability.

    Proton offers the e.MAS 7 in two variants - Prime and Premium with an estimated price of RM 120,000. There is also a special “Pioneer Privilege Deal” early-bird promo, offering an RM 500 rebate and a gift pack worth RM 1,000 for those who reserve the EV before its official launch.

    Powering the first-ever Proton EV is a front-mounted electric motor that generates a maximum power of 218 PS and a peak torque of 320 Nm. It is the brand’s fastest-accelerating car with a 0-100 kmph sprint of 6.9 seconds.

    As for battery pack, the e.MAS gets two options - 49.52-kWh and 60.22-kWh battery pack, offering a driving range of up to 410 km.

    In terms of features, the EV is well-equipped with advanced systems offering occupants comfort and convenience. The list covers -

    • Electronically foldable and adjustable door mirrors with a heating function
    • 10.2-inch digital driver display
    • 15.4 inch infotainment unit
    • Auto-dimming rearview mirror

    • Intelligent keyless entry and start
    • 16-speaker audio system
    • Automatic air-conditioning with N95 filter
    • Vehicle-to-load
    • A comprehensive pack of advanced driver-assistance systems
