Recently launched Mazda MX-30 recalled in Europe
KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda recently launched the all-electric MX-30 and now we hear about the car’s recall issue. A total of 11,774 units of MX-30 have been recalled, including 3,852 examples in Germany.
Why is the MX-30 recalled?
The Mazda MX-30 is recalled for not one but two reasons. The first issue relates to the brake light that lights up on reversing, even when the brake pedal is not pressed by the driver. The second matter is that of the Motor Hill Assist (MHA) system that misinterprets certain driving situations.
The importer has explained the problem saying, "If the vehicle drives from a slippery road surface (eg ice) onto a surface with high friction and the driver applies the brake, it is possible that the vehicle will start moving after the brake is released". The Motor Hill Assist system could mistakenly interpret it as stopping on the mountain and therefore generate engine torque. "As soon as the brake is pressed repeatedly, the engine torque drops again,"
The solution?
As per reports, both the issues in the 11,774 examples of the affected MX-30 can be resolved via a 20-minute vehicle control unit software update. Even though it is a software update, the owners of the affected units would have to visit the dealership as the over-the-air update option is not available.
The MX-30 is the automaker’s first series-production EV. It is powered by a 141hp and 264 Nm churning electric motor that sends the drive to the front wheels. The said motor draws its power from a 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and offers a range of up to 209 km. In the future, the MX-30 will benefit from a new variant with an extended range. It will feature a 330 cc single-rotor engine pumping 38 PS of power and will offer 380 km of range.
Mazda MX-30 Malaysia’s arrival
As per Bermaz Auto, the official distributor of the Mazda in the country the MX-30 was scheduled to arrive in late 2020, however, due to the pandemic things got delayed at several ends. We are hopeful to see it in the first quarter of 2021, as an e-Skyactiv mild-hybrid trim.
