Proton’s September 2024 sales figures are out; X50, X70, X90 taking the lead

KUALA LUMPUR: As the third quarter of the year comes to an end, the national automaker Proton has unveiled its sales numbers for September 2024 along with its year-to-date performance. The company sold a total of 11,269 units (including exports) last month, which represents a dip of approx 11% over the 12,690 units sold in August. Proton’s year-to-sales stands at 112,758 units.

Well, the decline in Proton’s sales aligns with the Total Industry Volume (TIV), which is estimated to have dropped to 56,067 units in September, marking a 22.2% decrease from the previous month. However, the industry’s overall sales so far in 2024 is still higher than 2023, with nearly 590,000 cars sold in the first nine months, showcasing a 3% increase compared to last year.

Speaking of market share, Proton continues to hold second place in the Malaysian automotive market with an estimated market share of 20.1% for the month and 19.1% for 2024 so far.

Let’s now have a look at the individual performance of Proton cars - 

Proton X50

Malaysia’s favourite SUV, the X50, maintained its leading position in the B-segment SUV category with 1,771 units sold in September 2024. So far in 2024, the X50 has achieved a total sales of 17,000 units.

Proton X70

Proton’s pioneering SUV, the X70, regained its lead in the C-segment category last month, with deliveries of 1,466 units, thanks to the recent facelift. The year-to-date sales stand at 5,482 units.

Proton X90

Proton’s third SUV, the X90, also continues to enjoy its dominance in the D-segment category with 217 units sold last month. Proton has delivered 2,724 units of the SUV so far this year.

Proton Saga

Proton’s best-selling model, the Saga, recorded monthly sales of 5,162 units in September 2024, making it the second-best-selling A-segment sedan in Malaysia. So far in 2024, the Saga has achieved a total sales of 54,006 units.

Proton Persona

The B-segment sedan, the Persona, contributed 1,295 units to the company’s monthly sales with a year-to-date figure standing at 14,411 units.

Proton S70

The S70 ended the month with 1,013 units sold in September, making it the second-best-selling C-segment sedan in Malaysia. The year-to-date sales stand at 14,768 units.

Proton Iriz

The Iriz chipped in 345 units to the brand’s September numbers with the year-to-date figure standing at 4,064 units.

“With two newly refreshed SUV models, and a new sedan in its first full year of sales, Proton is confident it has the necessary products to push sales volumes higher in the next three months. This will be boosted by our promotional activities and soon, we will launch a nationwide campaign to reward our customers with lucrative gifts and prizes,” said Proton Edar CEO Roslan Abdullah. 

“At the same time, our efforts to deliver a premium brand experience at outlets and improve after sales service will continue before culminating with the launch of our first EV offering in December,” Roslan added.
