Proton’s export numbers outshine targets in Trinidad and Tobago

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton, Malaysia's national carmaker, has achieved significant growth in its international expansion profile by surpassing export targets in Trinidad and Tobago. Thus highlighting the growing demand for Proton vehicles in the international market and underlining the automaker’s successful efforts to establish a global presence.

In 2024, Proton exported a total of 261 units (far exceeding the initial projection) of its two popular models, the X50 and X90, to Trinidad and Tobago. This milestone is particularly noteworthy as it reflects the brand's rising popularity in the Caribbean nation which is a relatively new market for Proton. Also, the automaker’s decision to focus on its key models like the X50 compact SUV and X90 large SUV has resonated with consumers in the region.

All this is also helping Proton diversify its global sales portfolio.

The X50 is one of Proton’s best-selling models, it features a sleek, contemporary design with a bold front grille, LED headlamps, and sporty accents. It is powered by a 1.5L turbocharged engine, available in both three-cylinder and four-cylinder configurations, which delivers a dynamic performance. It boasts a high-tech cabin with a large infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Proton X90
