Proton X70: Safety features explained
Buzz! This is what keeps the interest in a product alive. For example, Proton has been teasing its X70 SUV for quite some time. The SUV is all set to be launched in Malaysia next month. Proton even revealed the car to a select few. At the first go, the carmaker showcased the trims as well as gave a glimpse of how the interior be like.
There was a recent second interaction. During this time, Proton officials specifically harped about the advanced safety systems that the Proton X70 will carry. Now, we all know how much Proton values safety and how all their cars are equipped with the best features available at that price point. So, here is a list of the safety assets that the Proton possesses and how they work.
For starters, there are six airbags available - two for the front passenger and driver. The rest four will be curtain airbags that will ensure safety of the second-row passengers in case of a side collision happens. Antilock Braking System, as well as Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist, are also part of the standard fare. Since the Proton X70 will come with an automatic transmission only, there will be Hill Assist both for the Ascent and Descent as well as Bosch’s 9.1 generation Stability Control on offer.
On the top-spec trim of the X70, there is an Advanced Driver Assistance System on offer. This ADAS brings in a front collision warning that will be displayed on the centre console. Blind spot monitor will be manifested on ORVM, and lane departure warning will be showcased via slight vibrations on the steering wheel and MID. Intelligent High Beam Control, as well as adaptive cruise control too, are on offer. The latter though will disengage at speed below 30 kmph and will not have the 'stop and go' function if the car ahead stops and then moves. Proton has fitted five cameras to the X70 SUV. These enable the tasks mentioned above. Proton says that they have fitted approximately 1.6 km of wiring for the ADAS itself. There are cameras on the grille as well as on top of the SUV.
A 360-degree camera system also is on offer with the X70. This will ensure that the park-in, as well as park-out automatic feature too, is taken care off. The X70 will also parallel park itself. A tyre pressure monitoring system too will is provided. This will not only show the individual pressure in each tyre but also display the temperature. The temperature display will help the driver understand how the vehicle’s tyres are overheating or which particular is getting hot.
It is known that the Proton X70 is based on the Geely Boyue. The latter has been crash tested in the Chinese New Car Assessment Programme. It was given a five-star rating for safety. Needless to say, the aforementioned safety aids were present in the SUV. Proton is quick to add that the X70 too has been crash tested by the Global New Car Assessment Program. The results are set to be announced, but we already have a hunch what it will be. Five stars!
