Proton X50 update: 5-star safety rating, EEV status, & over 4k bookings
KUALA LUMPUR: We were expecting it sooner or later, as ASEAN NCAP doesn't seem to delay its work beyond a point. Finally, the renowned safety assessment program tested Proton's all-new B-segment SUV, X50 and as we expected, it has been awarded a five-star rating.
According to the ASEAN NCAP website, the full 'details of the result will be released soon.’ So, wait a little longer, and we'll bring you the minutest of the test details, including adult and child occupant protection scores and available safety assist technology.
With X50 gaining a five-star safety rating, it is now a part of the cars list with the same attributes. Included in the list are names like the Proton X70 (2018), Isuzu D-Max (2020), Honda City (2020), Honda Accord (2019), and Toyota C-HR (2018).

The X50 safety rating is higher than the Honda HR-V (2015) that scored a four-star rating.
Here are the key highlights of the Proton X50 safety features -
- 4 SRS airbags (Standard) & 6 SRS airbags (Executive onwards)
- 360-degree camera system (Premium and Flagship)
- Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (Premium and Flagship)
- ABS with EBD & brake assist
- Hill hold assist
- Drag torque control
- Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) 2.0 that includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, lane centring assist, intelligent high beam control

Proton X50 EEV certification
Safety isn't the only thing that makes the Proton X50 a perfect-buy, as it has also gained the Energy Efficient Vehicle status - meaning its engine maintains a perfect balance between performance and fuel efficiency.
Speaking of which, the X50 will be available in two engine options in Malaysia, including a 150 PS/226 Nm turbo 1.5-litre multi-port 4-Cyl engine and a 177 PS/255 Nm 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo petrol unit. With the said power, Proton claims the X50 to touch the 100 kmph mark in 7.9 seconds. It delivers a mileage of 15.6 kmpl.

Proton X50 booking details
Proton opened the X50 booking from September 16, 2020, at a marginal fee of RM 500. The automaker also organised several closed-door preview sessions at different locations giving more details about the car. And now, the company officials confirm an overwhelming response with the X50 exceeding the initial target of 4,000 bookings.

Assuring a timely delivery, Proton Edar Sdn Bhd CEO, Roslan Abdullah, said the company is in talks with its vendors to maximise production. He also said that they are trying their best to make sure the customers benefit from the tax exemption that will last until December 2020.
As of now, Proton has not spilled beans on the X50's price, as for its launch date, we are expecting it to happen this month.
