Proton X50 to launch soon or not?

KUALA LUMPUR: We all have been long waiting for the Proton X50. The B-segment SUV created several headlines in 2019, but we never got to see its face. Proton has not confirmed a thing on the matter. And we have relayed on the Geely Binyue on which the SUV will be based (launched in 2018 in China) for all the information. And now we have another teaser image, hinting on X50's soon arrival.

Earlier today, Paultan.com reported that an image has surfaced on the Facebook page of Proton Bintulu dealer. The said image shows two cars, one at the front and the other one behind it visible partly. Though it's a dark image, the former resembles the Proton X70, while the latter is said to be the upcoming X50. No confirmation on the matter has come from Proton until now.

If market speculations are to be believed, the Proton X50 will arrive by the end of this year. There are also words going around its price tag; some say the X50 will carry a starting tag of RM 50,000 (a rough translation of Geely Binyue starting price). To be frank, we don't believe it, and would rather wait for an official statement both for the X50's launch and price.

Until and unless Proton Malaysia makes a statement, take all the information you hear or read lightly. Also, we'd like to inform all our readers that neither Proton nor any of its authorised dealers/outlets have opened X50's ordering books. Don't fall prey to people making false promises of helping you make early bookings that'll guarantee a front slot in the queue, all in exchange for money.

In short, always wait for an official announcement, especially when the deal involves your hard-earned money. Also, we'll keep you posted on all the advancements in the local and international auto markets, thus minimising any foul-play.
