Proton X50: Safety features explained
We, like many others including prospective buyers and auto enthusiasts, are excited about the soon arrival of Proton's next big car, the B-segment SUV, the X50. Well, like its elder sibling, the X70, this one too comes with a fresh look, advanced features, and a high-end safety kit.

Proton initially revealed the X50 on its social media handles, then a proper preview event at its Tanjung Malim plant, the same place where the car is currently being assembled. Post that Proton Malaysia organised several showcasing wherein additional information about the car was passed on, you can check all that here.
Before we go any further, we'll like to inform you that the X50 is now open for bookings with a marginal fee of RM500. A slogan contest is also up and running, check out the details at Proton's official website.

Now, let's address the elephant in the room, here it's the X50 price and safety. While the former is still under covers with an expected range of RM 70,000 - RM 90,000, it's the latter about which we know and will be discussing today. It is for a fact that Proton values safety, it's clear from the specs sheet of cars in its lineup. And we are happy to see that things are no different for the X50.

Here's the list of safety features Proton has enabled the X50 with and we must say it's even safer than the X70.

For starters, there are four airbags (front and side) in the entry-level Standard variant and six airbags (front, side, and curtain) in the remaining three models.
Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist are most likely to be part of the standard safety kit.
Like the X70 SUV, the X50 will get a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that'll transmit power to the front wheels. This gives us the hope to see Hill Assist for both Descent and Ascent along with the Stability Control function.
The Proton X50 Premium and Flagship variants will benefit from a 360-degree camera system. It will make parking so much easier. The parking assist system will take care of the autonomous parallel and perpendicular parking.
Also, limited to the Premium and Flagship model is the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System which will display individual air pressure in each tyre. We hope like the X70 it also provides individual tyre temperature information, as it'll help the driver know when the units are getting overheated.
We saved the best for the last, the ADAS 2.0, i.e., Level 2 autonomous driving. It consists of some fantastic features like forward collision warning, lane centring assist, blind spot monitoring with door opening warning, lane keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and intelligent high beam control. A key part of ADAS 2.0 is the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with stop and go function. It enables the car to automatically keep a safe predetermined speed and distance from the car ahead. Also, it automatically slows down the car if it gets too near the vehicle moving ahead. It too is limited to the Premium and Flagship model.
Impressed? Well, we surely are and at the future-dated X50 ASEAN NCAP safety test we are expecting nothing less than a 5-star rating.
