Proton X50 launched in Malaysia, price starts at RM 79,200
KUALA LUMPUR: At last! Malaysians witnessed the most-awaited, the most sensational car launch event of this year - Proton X50 has finally hit the roads. For the last few months, the compact SUV has been one of the most talked-about upcoming cars in the country, even we have covered several stories on the Proton X50 updates till date, all in the anticipation of the SUV. Well, it is now available for sale, and most importantly, Proton finally announced the X50 price that the masses have been waiting for long.
The launch event happened virtually on Proton’s official Facebook page earlier this morning amid the ongoing CMCO and COVID-19 situation.
Prior to this, the national automaker previewed the all-new Proton X50 a number of times, including Merdeka Day video, official media previewing at Perak production plant, and recent promo videos showcasing the SUV’s design, performance, safety, and infotainment system.
As a CKD unit, the Proton X50 is available in four variants - Standard, Executive, Premium, and Flagship. The range-topping Flagship is powered by the 1.5-litre three-cylinder direct-injection turbo (TGDi) gasoline mill that pushes 177 PS of maximum power at 5,500 rpm and 255 Nm of torque from 1,500-4,000 rpm. The other models use a three-cylinder port-injection petrol engine generating 150 PS and 226 Nm. Both engines are paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, adopted from the Proton X70.
On the features front, the Proton’s second SUV gets the following bits depending on the variant:
- 10.25-inch infotainment system
- Voice command
- Remote engine start through a mobile app
- Air-conditional control through a mobile app
- Rear AC vents
- N95 cabin filter
- 3 USB ports
- Panoramic sunroof
In terms of safety, the X50 packs the latest Advanced Driver Assistant (ADAS) 2.0, 360-degree camera system, six SRS airbags, ABS, EBD, traction control, stability control, and so on. ADAS comprises Blind Spot Information System, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent High Beam Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control.

In the light of the overwhelming response from the buyers ahead of launch, it is not wrong to say that the new Proton X50 would repeat the history created by the famed X70.
