Proton X50 arrives in the Philippines as 2020 Geely Coolray

KUALA LUMPUR: The B-segment crossover scene will soon get a new contender in the Philippines. As Geely’s official distributor in the Philippines, Sojitz G Auto Philippines has opened its order book for the 2020 Coolray.

Geely Coolary, a.k.a. BinYue in the Chinese market is the same sub-compact SUV that’s expected to be next re-badged Proton X50. Once launched, the car will compete with the likes of Honda HR-V, Chevrolet Trax, Hyundai Kona, and Ford EcoSport.

On the design front, the car features Star Wars-inspired exterior and jet fighter aircraft lookalike cabin. At the front, there’s Geely signature ‘expanding cosmos’ grille and stylish headlights. Depending on the trim, the car comes either with LED or projector halogens headlights. The car stands on 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear gets LED tailgates and quad exhaust system that gives the cars a sporty look.

As for the dimension, the 2020 Coolray measures 4,330 mm in length, 1,7975 mm in width, and 1,609 mm in height. The wheelbase and ground clearance measures 2,600 mm and 196 mm, respectively.

Open the gates, and Coolray will greet you with a futuristic dashboard that features distinct red trim and metal finishes. Standard across the lineup is a massive 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen. The car’s centre tunnel is designed uniquely to look stylish and has space for additional cubby holes. Included in the 2020 Geely Coolray top trim specs sheet are leather seats, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree around-view camera, and automated parking assist.

Powering the 2020 Coolray is a 1.5-litre turbo inline-three ‘GPower’ powerplant that poops out a maximum power of 177 PS at 5500 rpm along with a peak torque of 255 Nm at 1500-4000 rpm. Transmitting the power to the wheels is a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. On the performance front, Geely claims 0 to 100 kmph rum time of 7.9 seconds, and all four wheels come with disc brakes.

In the Philippines, the 2020 Coolray will be available in three trims - Comfort, Sport, and Premium and will come with 5-year/150,000 warranty. Let’s see when we’ll get our share of 2020 Coolray, a.k.a. X50 in Malaysia.
