Proton targets to export 10k units in 2023
KUALA LUMPUR: Last year, Proton increased its exports by 79.1% with a total of 5,406 cars exported globally. And, now for 2023, the automaker targets to export 10,000 units, as revealed at a recent local media event.

Last year, Proton increased its exports by 79.1% with a total of 5,406 cars exported globally.Proton has been exporting cars for years now; from 2018 to 2022, the brand has shown a striking 290% growth with it all starting at 1,388 units in 2018. The national automaker initially exported its cars to as many as nine countries including - Zimbabwe, Brunei, Fiji, Egypt, Mauritius, Lebanon, Pakistan, and UAE.
However, in 2022, the automaker exported its models to 14 countries and now it aims to increase the number to 17 with the inclusion of three new countries - Indonesia, Thailand, and Fiji (probably). The former list of countries part of the brand’s 2022 export list is - Zimbabwe, Brunei, Egypt, Mauritius, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bermuda, Iraq, Kenya, Jordan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, and South Africa.
In the future, Proton’s focus will be on Pakistan and South Africa, with the former being its largest 2022 export market followed by the latter. Also, after Pakistan, Nepal, Kenya, and Sri Lanka, the automaker plans to open more assembly plants in the future with Egypt being next in line.
