Proton Perdana: Features explained
Proton has been in the automobile industry for many years now. Over the time it developed new products primarily for the Malaysian market and slowly built a strong bond with the people of the country. Today, Proton has got a good number of products to offer. One of them is the Perdana. The Perdana is a true sedan that would really make you look at it at least twice. Proton has spent hours in the R&D of the Perdana. And it clearly shows. In this story, we’ll be discussing some of the key features of the Proton Perdana.
Arresting headlamp design
Although the entire sight of the Proton Perdana is mesmerizing, it’s the pair of headlamps that grabs your attention the most. They’ve got a special design that sets the Perdana apart from the competition. Also, the LED daytime running lights enhance the overall appearance of the car from the front. These aren’t separate units but a continuous strip that just feels so much better.
Signature LED tail lights
Just like the beautiful headlamps, Proton has given the Perdana a set of gorgeous tail lights. These Combi Lamps are LED units and feature a signature illumination that would help you recognize the car from a distance. We also like how Proton has smartly flushed the horizontal chrome slat of the boot lid into the reverse light of the tail light cluster.
Additional body kit
To spark things up, even more, Proton has given the Perdana an additional body kit. This comes only with the higher 2.4L variant and we strongly recommend you to get it. It brings in a more sporty touch to the car. It also includes a rear spoiler.
Dual-zone automatic air conditioning
The cabin of the Proton Perdana is quite comfortable for all the occupants. However, Proton has thought about the comfort level of the rear seat passengers a bit more by giving them access to air-con vents located at the rear only. These vents, along with the ones in the front, features dual zone climate control function. It means that both driver and passengers can decide how warm or cool they want to feel.
Front and rear seat armrest
This is a very handy feature primarily for the driver. The front armrest allows you to rest your arm and reduce fatigue on long distance drives. This might not sound that big of a deal but trust us, it makes a big difference.
USB port and AUX jack
Proton wanted to give all types of connectivity options to its customers, therefore, it included a USB port and an AUX jack located in a storage compartment under the front armrest. While we’re glad that Proton has given these features but the fact that you always need to flip open the armrest in order to access them is a bit annoying.
Proton Infotainment System
The Perdana comes equipped with Proton Infotainment System that features a large 6.2-inch TFT screen with radio, CD, integrated DSP, Bluetooth, USB, and AUX connectivity. On the 2.4L variant, you even get GPS navigation. However, Proton hasn’t included Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
Two engine options
If we look at the Proton Perdana specs, we’ll come across two engine options available. First one is a 2.0L unit that churns out 158 horsepower and 189 Nm of torque. The other option is a bigger capacity unit - a 2.4L engine with 178 horses and 222 Nm of torque to play around. Both these variants are available with a 5-speed automatic gearbox only. We don’t get to see a manual transmission here.
Paddle shifters
Talking about transmission, yes, the Proton Perdana doesn’t come with a manual gearbox, but for the enthusiast lot of us, Proton has provided paddle shifters. They allow effortless gear shifts and give you a sense of control over the driveability of the car and you feel more connected to all that’s happening. Unfortunately, the paddle shifters are available only with the 2.4L model.
Safety features
In terms of safety features, the Perdana is equipped with dual front airbags, dual side airbags, ABS with EBD, auto headlamp, front active headrest, seatbelt pre-tensioners, front and rear parking sensor, reverse camera, etc. The 2.4L model gets electronic stability control as an additional safety feature.
The Proton Perdana is available in two trims - 2.0L and 2.4L - and comes in 5 color options - Midnight Black, Ruby Red, Graphite Grey, Sterling Silver, Cotton White. The Perdana price has been set at RM 104,326 and RM 103,927 for the metallic and solid color type respectively for the 2.0L model. The 2.4L variant costs RM 127,247 for the metallic color type and RM 126,849 for the solid color type.
