Proton Malaysia launches 2019 Saga, prices lowered
KUALA LUMPUR: For a while now, we were expecting Proton to bring along the revised Saga sedan, especially after seeing the new Iriz and 2019 Persona. And the day finally came, when the Malaysia born automaker launched the all-new Saga.
The new Saga looks similar to the model it replaces. Like before, it measures 4,331 mm in length, 1,689 mm in width, and 1,491 mm in height. Wheelbases and boot space also mirror the previous-gen Saga specs sheet at 2,465 mm and 420-litre, respectively.
At the front, the car features the X70-like grille that incorporates ‘Infinite Wave’ pattern. The black grille replaced the twin chrome bar, and it sits between the same-old halogen reflector headlamps. Below the chrome bar, there is another thin grille section - making the overall grille setup taller. The front bumper is new and gets large air intakes. Instead of round fog lamps, the new Saga features horizontal LED DRLs. The top-spec variant gets front parking sensors along with a rear one.
The side profile mostly remains same except for the new twin five-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels and a bee sting antenna. The rear end is simpler than before taking a lot of inspiration from the new Persona. The rear bumper is new, and the tailgate gets X70 like Proton script.
The new Proton Saga is available in three trim options - Standard MT, Standard AT, and Premium AT. All of them are powered by the same-old 1.3-litre VVT DOHC engine that was found under the previous-gen model. This 1332cc naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine that churns out a maximum power of 95 PS at 5,750 rpm and 120 Nm at 4,000 rpm. While the base variant features a 5-speed manual gearbox, the remaining two features 4-speed automatic unit.
Cabin changes include new higher quality Tricot headliner, new automatic gear lever with side buttons, new sun visor ticket holder, LED bulb map lights, grab handles, and vanity mirror.
The 2019 Proton Saga standard safety kit includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD with BA, rear ISOFIX, and rear parking sensor.
