Both Proton and Perodua are in the process of introducing their pure EVs. While Perodua showcased the all-electric Myvi hatchback concept at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, Proton is gearing up to reveal the details of its first electric vehicle on June 12, i.e., tomorrow.

The contest received an exceptional response from fans around the country, with the automaker receiving over 22,440 entries. The contest concluded on June 5, and now it seems Proton is ready to unveil its new EV brand name.
The automaker has recently released a couple of teasers on its social media handle, announcing that it is “ready to embark on a historic milestone that marks the brand’s bold leap into an electric transformation.” The teasers invite everyone to tune in to Proton’s official Facebook page on 12th June at 6 PM to witness the beginning of “something electrifying.”
While no official details are yet available on the upcoming EV, the silhouette of the car presented on the brand name contest poster hints that it might be based on the Geely Galaxy E5.
Globally revealed at the Beijing Motor Show 2024, the Geely Galaxy E5 underpins the brand’s new Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA) platform supporting pure EVs, plug-in hybrid, and methanol technologies. The said platform is touted to feature the world’s first “AI digital chassis,” which integrates the chassis, powertrain, and driver assistance technologies.
In terms of dimensions, the Galaxy E5 measures 4,615 mm in length, 1,901 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. As per the reports, the EV is likely to come powered by a single motor capable of generating a maximum power of 218 PS. The motor will be fed by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.
Well, these are just speculations, and we will have to wait for the official announcement to know whether the new Proton EV is actually based on the Geely Galaxy E5 or not.
