Proton grabs “Excellence Award” for its innovative safety technologies
KUALA LUMPUR: Proton is once again in the spotlight, this time for winning big at the ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries) Grand Prix Awards 2024. The national automaker received the prestigious “Excellence Award” due to its continuous and outstanding efforts and contributions to vehicle safety technology.

The Proton X50 and Proton X70 are the brand’s best-selling SUV. Both models boast 5-star safety ratings and are equipped with several active and passive safety features. These include - six SRS airbags, an anti-lock braking system, an electronic brakeforce distribution system, brake assist, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, hill descent control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a 360-degree camera, and parking sensors.
Among the Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are - Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Forward Collision Warning with autonomous emergency braking, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Intelligent high-beam control, Blind Spot Information System, and Auto Park Assist.
Proton's latest models, the S70 and X90, also excel in safety. Along with a large number of passive and active safety technologies, the newest Proton cars “are even equipped with features such as a Fatigue Driving Reminder System (FDRS) to reduce the risk of driver fatigue.”
“This award reflects PROTON’s commitment to leverage on advanced technologies and innovative design to enhance and improve the safety of our vehicles and ultimately helps to keep our drivers and passengers safe,” added Roslan Abdullah.
The award ceremony was held at King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok. The event also included sessions on the latest safety protocols and technologies, helping regional automotive players advance innovation.
