As testing intensifies across Peninsular Malaysia, the Proton e.MAS 7 has shown significant adaptability and reliability according to Proton.
A Focus on Local Conditions
To ensure the e.MAS 7 is fully prepared for Malaysian driving conditions, six units have been deployed for testing across diverse terrains. Engineers are subjecting the vehicle to an extensive range of tests, including Durability Adaptive Testing (DAT), Electrical Road Testing (ERT), Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) assessments, and Quality Reliability Tests (QRT). These evaluations focus on adapting the vehicle to local environmental and road conditions, ensuring the SUV is fine-tuned for the Malaysian market.
Simulations replicating Malaysia's unique weather and traffic patterns are part of the DAT process, while the ERT includes a 10,000 km road test to validate the integration of the vehicle's electrical components. The ADAS system, a crucial feature of the e.MAS 7, is being tested in real-world scenarios such as complex parking situations, road forks, and elevated highways.
Additionally, the in-car navigation system has been optimized for Malaysia, ensuring accurate mapping, while the Digital Head Unit (DHU) and Telematic Service Provider (TSP) have been localized to reflect Malaysian needs.
Local Adaptation and Enhanced Durability
Proton engineers have worked closely with Geely, incorporating 49 additional processes and unique features to ensure the e.MAS 7 is not just a rebranded model but one with a genuine Malaysian identity. One of the standout features is its water-wading capability, which surpasses that of the Geely Galaxy E5, handling water depths of up to 400mm—an essential adaptation for handling Malaysia's frequent floods.
During testing, the vehicle was subjected to a water-depth test at the proving ground in July, alongside a speed bump simulation designed to mirror real Malaysian road conditions. Following the tests, issues were identified and corrected to further enhance the vehicle's resilience.
Safety and Future Accreditation
As the Proton e.MAS 7 continues its testing phase, it will undergo ASEAN NCAP safety accreditation to ensure it meets the highest standards for passenger safety. The QRT phase will test the SUV’s acceleration, braking, and power consumption over 100,000 km, pushing the vehicle to its limits in terms of performance and durability.
Software testing has also been prioritized, with a focus on localizing key software components, including accurate translation from the original Chinese system into Malaysian English, further emphasizing the vehicle's integration into the local market.
Anticipation Builds for the Proton e.MAS 7
With testing is well underway, Malaysians can expect to see the Proton e.MAS 7 on the roads as engineers continue to fine-tune its performance. This crucial phase marks a step closer to the official launch of the vehicle, which PRO-NET’s CEO, Zhang Qiang, is eagerly anticipating.
"I am thrilled to see the Proton e.MAS 7 embark on this crucial phase of local testing. This marks a significant step toward delivering a vehicle that not only represents a technological breakthrough but also embodies our commitment to meeting the specific needs of the Malaysian market. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that the Proton e.MAS 7 stands up to the highest standards of quality and reliability, paving the way for its grand launch," said Zhang.
With its unique blend of cutting-edge technology and features tailored specifically for Malaysia, the Proton e.MAS 7 is shaping up to be a major player in the national EV market.
