Proton crosses 100k YTD sales mark; hits new milestone in Brunei
KUALA LUMPUR: Proton has revealed the sales report for August 2024. During the month, the national automaker managed to sell a total of 12,690 units (domestic and export), representing a month-on-month dip of 15.9%. The company’s year-to-date total sales are estimated at 101,489 units, which marks a significant milestone of surpassing the 100,000-unit mark for the sixth year in a row.

- The automaker’s beloved XUV, the X50, breached the 2,000 threshold for the third time in 2024 with deliveries of 2,440 units in August. The year-to-date sales now stand at 15,229 units.
- The Proton Saga's sales reached 6,211 units in August, contributing to a cumulative year-to-date total of 48,904 units.
- The automaker sold 1,205 units of the top-selling Proton S70 last month, with a total year-to-date sales of 13,755 units.
- The B-segment Persona sedan recorded monthly sales of 1,452 units, bringing the year-to-date total to 13,116 units.
- The Proton X90 retained its leadership in the D-segment SUV with 241 being sold in August and a YTD figure of 2,507 units.
- The Proton Iriz contributed 403 units to the company’s monthly sales with a year-to-date figure standing at 3,719 units.
“In light of the resilient domestic economy, with GDP growth projected at 4% to 5%, PROTON agrees with the Malaysian Automotive Association’s (MAA) decision to increase the full-year TIV projection to 765,000 units and we remain optimistic about the potential for further growth in the local automotive industry. Malaysia’s automotive market remains buoyant, and this is reflected by our sales volume exceeding 100,000 units for a sixth consecutive year with four months remaining in 2024,” said Roslan Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer, Proton Edar.
“While there has been a lot of competition this year from new brands, market response to PROTON’s latest updates models has been positive with strong booking numbers seen nationwide. This is a testament to the effectiveness of the enhancements made and speaks volumes about the importance of having a market leading network of 3S/4S outlets to serve our customers’ needs,” he added.
Proton also hit a new export sales milestone last month. The brand recorded its highest ever monthly sales in Brunei with 120 units sold to customers there. The cumulative export sales for the year reached 2,110 units. The Saga continues to be the best-selling model leading the pack with 140 units exported during the last month.
“As one of our first export markets, Proton has a long history with Bruneian car buyers stretching back to the original Proton Saga. Thanks to the painstaking efforts of Pad Motors Proton Brunei and our latest range of intelligent models, the brand has undergone a rejuvenation in the country leading to achieving a record sales month in August,” added Roslan Abdullah.
