Now adding to its glory are the awards it won at the 2020 World Car of the Year (WCOTY) show - the World Performance Car and the World Luxury Car.Not to anybody’s surprise, Porsche had the most number of nominations. Also, all the three finalists to make it to the World Performance Award came from the German automaker. The list included - Porsche 911, Porsche 718 Spyder/Cayman GT4, and Porsche Taycan.
The Taycan was ranked number one in the Performance category with 867 points. Its cousins, the 911 closely following with 807 points. The Porsche 718 Spyder/Cayman GT4 secured the third position with 716 points.
Apart from the recent recognition at the WCOTY 2020, Porsche Taycan recently won around 40 international prizes and that too in the main markets of Germany, the USA, the UK, and China. The list included -
- German Car of the Year: German Car of the Year (GCOTY) jury

Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, Oliver Blume, said, “We are so happy to have been awarded these prizes. They reflect the positive feedback from our customers and are a great incentive for our future work. We see ourselves as pioneers of sustainable mobility and have brought an emotive as well as a highly innovative sports car to the road with the Taycan—fully electric and 100 percent Porsche.”
The Taycan is a 4-door sports saloon that displays ‘unmistakable Porsche design DNA’. The car has been named after two Turkish words that mean ‘soul of a spirited young horse’. Indeed, the name lives up to the expectations as the car showcases a free-spirited, vigorous, impetuous, and light-footed performance on the road.
This time around due to the pandemic, the annual World Car Awards were announced remotely instead of the New York Auto Show. A total of 86 global journalists evaluated the vehicles and voted their top picks.
