Porsche 911 Speedster, the final model of 991 series rolled off the production line
KUALA LUMPUR: Porsche has rolled off the final model of the 991 series from the production line, the 911 Speedster. Launched back in 2011, the 991 series of cars have accumulated tremendous praise and success for the brand. With 233,540 units produced, each iteration featured nearly 90 percent of newly designed components or had undergone further development.
Talking about the latest specimen, the 911 Speedster has been developed to mark the 70th anniversary of Porsche sports cars. Built on Porsche’s development guidelines with lightweight components while keeping performance,
driving pleasure and efficiency in checks, it underpins a naturally-aspirated 4.0-litre engine, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission that produces a maximum power of 510 PS. Its combined fuel consumption is rated at 13.8 litres per 100 km.
Taking you back in time, we’ve mentioned some of the other models of the 991-generation below.
911 Targa
Launched in 2012, the 911 Targa was as legendary as the original Targa, with a wide hoop and capability to fold down and store the roof at the rear at the push of a button.
911 50th-anniversary limited edition
Porsche celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013 and what could have been a better way to do it than building a limited edition 991 series model. That’s exactly what the brand did, launched the limited edition 911 model with only 1,963 examples.
911 R
Porsche took the sports car game to a new level by launching the road-approved version of the 1967 racing sports 911 R. Launched in 2016, it came out with the same name powered by a naturally-aspirated engine that was capable of pumping out a max power of 500 PS.
Further, Porsche launched 911 T and 911 GT3 high-performance cars with Touring package in 2017 that were based on their respective classic predecessors.
Not-for-sale one-millionth 911
The one-millionth 911 was painted in Irish Green and was benefitted from the Pepita leather seats. It was a not-for-sale model. However, in the same year, Porsche launched the Golden Yellow 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series with power rated at 607 PS.
911 GT2 RS & 911 GT3 RS
Blessed with the most powerful 911 racing technology for road-approved cars, the 911 GT2 RS came out in 2017 with 700 PS naturally-aspirated engine, while the 911 GT3 RS with racing chassis was launched a few months later with 520 PS 4.0-litre engine.
