Perodua reaching its sales target for 2021, over 96,000 units sold
KUALA LUMPUR: Perodua has sold 96,281 cars in the first five months of 2021. Furthermore, the automaker has stated that it is on the path to reach its this year’s sales target of 240,000 units. All this despite the ongoing battle against COVI-19 and the worldwide semiconductor shortage.
"While Perodua’s year-to-date May sales of 96,281 units is 82% more than the 52,920 units sold in the same period last year, this achievement is distorted as the first Movement Control Order was in place from March to May last year,” said Perodua’s President and CEO, Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
He further added, "We understand that the measures taken by the government to contain the pandemic are necessary to ensure the people’s health and safety, and we, along with our suppliers and dealers, will cooperate fully with the government to flatten the curve. On new vehicle deliveries, we wish to thank our valued customers for their understanding and patience in waiting for their Perodua vehicles.”
We can not compare the current figures with that of 2020 given the huge impact COVID-19 on the economy and the auto industry. As for 2019, during the same period, Perodua sold 105,745 units, i.e., 8.9% more compared to 2021. However, this trend indicates recovering sales figures and rising popularity of the brand’s model, for instance, the 2021 Perodua Ativa.
During the ongoing full-movement control order, showrooms are closed and therefore no new vehicle is being delivered. However, aftersale services are open and customers can book a prior appointment to seek any service.
