Perodua meets sales target of 208,000 units for 2015

Perodua meets sales target of 208,000 units for 2015

Kuala Lumpur: Perodua's dream of looking forward to a record-breaking 2015 seems like falling in place at the right time, with Jan-Sept sales up by 12%. The giant local car manufacturing unit has even crossed its own set target of selling 208,000 units for the year 2015. With these figures of sales, Perodua regained its top position which was earlier speculated to fade in the darkness (as an adverse effect of falling ringgit value).

The automaker has set a sales target of 208,000 units for 2015, which is around 6% more than the 195,600 units the company managed last year. Perodua's previous sales record was 196,100, achieved in 2013.

“We are humbled by the response and support shown to us and we will continue to offer better value proposition in both our products and services to our customers. That being said, we remain cautiously optimistic to achieve our sales target of 208,000 units despite the challenging economic and market conditions,” said Perodua president and CEO Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh.

Although, the individual sales figure of September month are not so surprising. According to Aminar, October will be much better in terms of performance for the company. As expected, we can see sale of around 17,000 to 17,500 units in the particular month close to the year end.

Much credit goes to the popular Perodua Axia which is set to continue its strong form as the marque has just announced that its latest model has recorded sales of 76,107 units till September. In the second place to Axia, falls facelifted Myvi, which increased the sales by contributing 52,560 units (65,245 last year) and then comes Alza MPV with 28,841 units sold this year ((43,014 last year). Though, the later two halves has seen decline in comparison to the last year's sale figures, Perodua manages to achieve its top position in the local auto market.

Ringgit is Asia's worst performing currency this year. As a result of which, the two major key players of the market – Proton and Perodua as well as other foreign brands like Toyota and Honda have announced the revised prices for their vehicles. And it's no surprise anymore, seeing some changes in the coming two years would be a surprise instead!

On the possibility of Perodua doing the same, Aminar said: “We are studying the situation very closely. I have to admit that our cost has gone up, and vendors have raised their hands at us too. We would like to avoid it [price hikes> if possible. If we come to a point where it’s too difficult to absorb, we’ll have to make a decision.”

“We have been impacted. To give you figures, it’s 2 to 3% of our bottom line [profit before tax> two to three months ago; now it’s 5%,” he said then. The ringgit most recently closed at 4.2875 to the greenback and 3.5535 to the Japanese yen, the two currencies Perodua trade in.
