Perodua launched Transformation 3.0 plan for a robust automotive ecosystem
KUALA LUMPUR: The national automaker Perodua is now entering the third stage of its transformation plan, and for which it launched the company’s first sustainable blueprint called “Perodua Smart Build.” The new plan is not only focused on improving the company’s performance but it aims at the collective growth of the entire Malaysian automotive supplier and dealer ecosystem.
While explaining the Perodua Smart Build, the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin said, “It is an evolution of what Perodua and the Malaysian automotive industry were originally set up to do: to create a sustainable and robust automotive ecosystem.” He also termed it as Perodua’s ‘Transformation 3.0’, as it is built on the company’s previous milestones.
Dato’ Zainal also briefed about the first two transformation phases; the first one started in 2011 in which the company was focused on building Energy-Efficient Vehicle (EEV) ecosystem along with stopping defect outflow, setting up Perodua Global Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, and changing the company’s mindset to be quality conscious. Perodua has produced more than one million EEV-certified cars.
In Transformation 2.0, the company aimed at customer satisfaction, organizational development, and the fostering of unity within the entire Perodua Group of Companies. Regarding the third stage, Dato’ Zainal said, “Now, we are at the third phase of transformation to ‘build’ a sustainable future for both Perodua and its partners to a point where we will be able to find our own niche in the automotive industry.”
Under ‘Transformation 3.0’, Perodua will pursue the following agenda:
- The company will work together with the business partners to rationalize the quality gap, cost, and delivery.
- It will look out for possibilities where existing expertise can be utilized beyond Malaysia, just like Perodua staff is currently working to design Daihatsu models in Japan.
- The company will also continue to leverage its close association with Daihatsu to realize the blueprint’s objective.
- The blueprint will also help Perodua and the automotive ecosystem in reaping the benefits of the National Automotive Policy.
Dato’ Zainal further added, “We are grateful to Daihatsu for this opportunity and for their continuous support of Perodua since the very beginning. It is now time for us to fully extend this cooperation to our Malaysian business partners.”
Several Malaysian suppliers are already part of Daihatsu’s global supply chain, and Perodua is working with the MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry) to prepare more local suppliers to follow suit. Further, the company aims to ensure its dealers’ business sustainability by providing guidance on best practices and the latest technology for growth,
