The anticipated debut of the Perodua SUV, hinted by Kenanga Research to be slated for April, serves as a reaffirmation of the widely held expectation that a new Perodua SUV is set to grace the market this year. This launch aligns closely with the introduction of the Toyota Yaris Cross, essentially its counterpart.

Drawing insights from previous dual launches by Perodua and Toyota, such as the Veloz and Alza in 2022, it appears that the unveiling of both vehicles typically spans a two-month interval, with the Perodua model traditionally taking the lead.

However, our focus shifts to the Perodua SUV, potentially a game-changer in the Malaysian automotive scene. Let's delve into the finer details and explore the buzz circulating about this much-anticipated model.

Underpinnings: A Shared Foundation

The Perodua D66B/Nexis SUV is rumored to be based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, a versatile foundation shared with models like the Toyota Vios, Perodua Ativa and even the Perodua Axia.

There’s also talk of a hybrid variant, aligning with the global automotive industry’s push towards electrification. In Indonesia, the Toyota Yaris Cross elevates its appeal with a hybrid variant, incorporating a 2NR-VEX 1.5-litre engine that delivers 90 hp and 121 Nm, complemented by an electric traction motor boasting 79 hp and 141 Nm.
