Perodua crowned Malaysia’s No.1 car brand; Bezza, Axia, and Myvi best-selling cars

KUALA LUMPUR: Once again, it has been proven that Perodua is the undisputed leader of the Malaysian automotive industry. With a total sales of 358,102 units last year, Perodua holds a dominating position in the market that no other automaker can easily shake.

Let’s discuss the Perodua sales and production numbers in detail - 

Perodua sales 2024

As mentioned, the automaker delivered a total of 358,102 vehicles in the year, marking a year-on-year growth of 8.4% over the 330,325 units sold in 2023. This makes Perodua Malaysia's No.1 car brand, followed by Proton with 147,587 units. 

“On the industry as a whole, we estimate that the total industry volume is more than 814,000 units for 2024, of which we captured 44%. In fact, based on the same numbers, we estimate that Perodua was the main growth driver last year,” said Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer.

Perodua sold 97,741 cars in the last quarter of the year, which represents an increase of 0.7% over the 97,098 vehicles sold in the same quarter of 2023. However, in the last month, the company recorded a 3.2% growth with 32,202 deliveries over 31,210 units in December 2023.

Perodua’s best-selling cars 2024

The three best-selling Perodua cars are -

• Perodua Bezza - 1,00,814 units sold
• Perodua Axia - 88,137 units sold
• Perodua Myvi - 72,214 units sold

Notably, these are not only the top three best-selling Perodua cars, but also the three best-selling cars across all brands in the Malaysian market.

Perodua production 2024

Speaking of production, Perodua manufactured a total of 368,100 cars in 2024, its highest-ever production volume over its 30-year sales history. Compared to 2023, it witnessed a jump of 7.2%.

“We have expanded far beyond our installed capacity of 320,000 units, showcasing dynamic synchronisation in meeting our shared objectives. This achievement shows our true potential and will be the benchmark for the industry in the years to come,” Dato’ Sri Zainal said.

“This achievement also proves that quality and quantity can move hand in hand if all communicate and coordinate well. In this regard, we wish to thank our staff for going above and beyond what we believe we can do,” he added.

Perodua after-sales performance

Perodua also demonstrated strong growth in terms of after sales services in 2024, with a 9.7% increase in vehicle intake. It serviced a total of 3.4 million vehicles this year, compared to 3.1 million in 2023.

Upon ending 2024 with such remarkable achievements, Perodua thanked shareholders, the government, vendors, dealers, partners in the finance sector, and valued customers for their continued support. “To all Malaysians, we wish to thank you for your trust in us, and we will do our best to exceed your expectations on what we are capable of,” Dato’ Sri Zainal added.

Looking ahead to 2025

Malaysia’s largest automaker sees 2025 as a year of new opportunities and challenges as the market has been heating up due to the entry of new automotive brands. However, despite the challenges, the automaker is geared up to continue its role as a leader in the industry.

Among the most-anticipated Perodua moves inlined for 2025 is the launch of its first electric vehicle. It previewed the eMO-II EV concept at KLIMS 2024 and is expected to bring the production version on the road in the final quarter of this year. The Perodua EV is likely to be priced between RM 50,000 and RM 90,000.
