Perodua Ativa gets a 5-star safety rating; first model assessed under ASEAN NCAP’s new protocol

KUALA LUMPUR: Perodua has just released its all-new compact SUV Ativa that is loaded with a glut of smart safety and driver-assistance features. Even, the base model gets the brand’s Advanced Safety Assist and an exhaustive list of passive safety features, which is quite impressive at a price point of RM 61,500. Well, here comes the safety performance of the new Perodua SUV. The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) has tested the Perodua Ativa and awarded it a perfect 5-star rating. 

But the story does not end here, the Perodua’s new SUV is the first passenger car model in the ASEAN region, which is assessed under the new protocol of the organization and showed a remarkable performance. Also, it is the eighth Perodua model that underwent the ASEAN NCAP assessment.

The Ativa obtained a total score of 83.40 points, here are the category-wise points:

• Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) - 37.48 points out of 40.00
• Child Occupant Protection (COP) - 17.36 points out of 20.00 
• Safety Assist Technologies (SAT) - 18.57 points out ot 20.00 
• Motorcyclist Safety (MS) - 10.00 out of 20.00 

The Perodua Ativa standard safety features are:

• Advanced Safety Assist - Pre-collision warning, Pre-collision braking, Front departure alert, Pedal misoperation control
• Lane departure warning
• Lane departure prevention
• Rear corner sensor
• Auto high beam
• Six airbags (Driver, passenger, side, and curtain)
• ABS with EBD and BA
• Vehicle stability control 
• Hill hold assist
• Emergency stop signal
• ISOFIX child seat anchors

Variant-wise features list include blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, front sensors, reverse camera, and a rear cross traffic alert system.

“As the motorization industry advanced, ASEAN NCAP has ensured the new protocol will enhance the safety performance of the vehicles in the ASEAN region. With this protocol, we are not only protecting the safety of the vehicle occupants but also taking into consideration the safety of other vulnerable road users especially motorcyclists as statistics showed a high number of fatalities amongst this group of road users in South East Asia region.”

“We hope the achievement by Perodua Ativa will be an example for other new vehicle manufacturers to follow in their development process of producing safer cars for the ASEAN road users,” he added.
