Perodua Ativa D55L SUV: Safety explained
Opened for booking just a few days back, the all-new Perodua D55L (supposed to be called the ‘Ativa’) will make its Malaysian debut on March 3, which is just five days away. Well, before the grand day, we have so much information in hand about the long-awaited SUV as Perodua has very graciously announced its price and preliminary specification while opening the order books.
Known to be the most-advanced Perodua yet, the Ativa range kicks off with the base trim X, priced from RM 62,500, while the mid-spec H is priced from RM 67,300. As for the top-spec AV, the Malaysian automaker quoted an estimated tag of RM 73,400. These prices are on-the-road excluding insurance and including SST exemption and applicable for Peninsular Malaysia only.
Speaking about the Perodua Ativa specs sheet, the upcoming compact SUV will have a number of advanced features inside and out. In today’s guide, our primary area of concern is the safety features available in the SUV. So, let’s jump right into it then.
Perodua Smart Drive Assist
It covers the brand’s Advanced Safety Assist, driving Assist, parking assist, and headlamp assist.
Advanced Safety Assist
The upcoming Ativa is Perodua’s first model that features the brand’s Advanced Safety Assist 3.0 as the standard appointment. The systems included in this pack are:
- Pre-Collision Warning: This feature alerts the driver when it detects the risk of a frontal collision. It now comes with two-wheeled vehicle detection.
- Pre-Collision Braking or Automatic Emergency Braking: This system judges that there is no driver input on the brakes after a pre-collision warning. Thus, it applies the secondary brakes for a complete stop. It also has two-wheeled vehicle detection now.
- Front Departure Alert: This system alerts the driver when the vehicle in front has moved.
- Pedal Misoperation Control: This control prevents the accidental stepping of the wrong pedal in parking situations.
Driving Assist
In the Driving Assist department, Perodua brings on board a total of five systems that provide Level 2 autonomous driving assistance to the compact SUV. Although the lower trims have just the first two below-mentioned systems, the top-spec AV gets the full pack.
- Lane Departure Warning: It warns the driver when the car begins to move out of the lane.
- Lane Departure Prevention: After lane departure warning, this system helps the driver to go back to the lane.
- Lane Keep Control: This aids the driver in maintaining safe travel within a marked lane on freeways.
- Blind Spot Monitor: It detects vehicles in the blind-spot areas and alerts the driver.
- Adaptive Cruise Control: It enables the driver to fix the car's accelerator at a specific speed and take the foot off the pedal.
Parking Assist
In the Parking Assist area, the base trim X has reverse sensors only, the mid-spec H adds on front sensors and a reverse camera to the specs sheet, while the range-topping AV includes a Rear Cross Traffic Alert system that helps the driver at the time of reversing out of a parking space.
Headlamp Assist
The Headlamp Assist department has two features - Auto High Beam and Adaptive Driving Beam. The former is available with the base model, while the latter is added to the higher trims. New to the brand and segment, the Adaptive Driving Beam detects the oncoming vehicles with the help of software and sensors and then turns off individual LEDs to prevent glare.
Passive Safety features
Standard across the Perodua Ativa range is an exhaustive list of passive safety bits. It includes:
- Airbags: Perodua offers the Ativa with a total of 6 airbags - driver, front passenger, side, and curtain. Six is a good number and thus we can say that the upcoming SUV has a safe cabin.
- ABS with EBD and BA: Anti-lock Braking System prevents the wheels from skidding under heavy braking. It is combined with Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Brake Assist, all of which work together for the car's braking performance.
- Vehicle stability control: This control prevents or reduces under and oversteer, particularly at the time of tackling corners with speed.
- Emergency Stop Signal: At the time of sudden braking, this activates the flashing of hazard lights as a warning to other drivers.
- Hill Hold Assist: This system stops the SUV from rolling back on an incline when the brake is released.
So, these were the safety features or driver-assistance systems that you can find in the Perodua Ativa specs sheet. We hope you find this explanation elaborative enough.
