While the EV revolution in Malaysia is now underway, the electric cars in the country are still out of reach for the masses. And, the reason is their hefty price tags, which are majorly above RM 250,000. However, the arrival of cheap electric cars in Malaysia might solve this issue. Already on sale in Thailand
This Chinese EV hatchback has been on sale in the Land of Smiles since November 2021. Well, Thailand is not only the second market in the world where the Ora EV is on sale, but GWM has also set up an Ora (first BEV sub-brand) plant in Rayong to penetrate the Asia Pacific region.

In Malaysia, the Ora EVs will be distributed under the guidance of GoAuto. The company has experience in selling and locally assembling Haval models and other Chinese brands trucks like Dong Feng and Mian Yang Jinbei.
Dimensions identical with Volkswagen Golf MK7
Built on the brand’s latest EV platform named Lemon, the Ora Good Cat measures the same as the Volkswagen Golf MK7. It is 4.235 mm long, 1.825 mm wide, 1,596 mm tall and has a wheelbase measuring 2,650 mm. With these compact dimensions, the Good Cat may offer similar practicality as our beloved Perodua Myvi.
Driving range up to 500 kms
Coming to the drivetrain setup, the EV is equipped with an electric motor placed in front, churning out a maximum power of 143 hp and a peak torque of 210 Nm. The automaker offers the car in two different battery sizes in Thailand; the standard 47.8 kWh battery pack provides a range of 400 km (NEDC cycle), while the larger 63.1 kWh unit runs for 500 km between charging stops. Both battery packs are sourced from CATL, one of the world’s leading EV battery makers.
40 minutes charging time with DC charger
As per the Chinese automaker, the larger battery takes only 40 minutes to charge (30% to 80%) when using a 60kW DC fast charger. However, the home charger completes the 0-100% task in 10 hours.
Looks like Porsche 911
One thing you must have noticed is that the Ora Good Cat looks like the Porsche 911. The EV’s connection with Porsche lies in the fact that Emanuel Derta, who designed the car is a former Porsche designer.

The likely advanced driver assistance systems to be included in the top-spec model are a 360-degree parking camera system, lane keep assist, lane following assist, forward collision warning, active cruise control with stop and go, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change assist.
Price
For the Ora Good Cat price, we can take reference from the Thai market, where it retails between THB 989,000 (RM 125,359) to THB1,199,000 (RM 151,978).
