Omoda C9 previewed in Malaysia ahead of December launch - Premium off-road SUV est from RM185k,adaptive suspension, 2.0T 257hp/400Nm

KUALA LUMPUR:  JAECOO is gearing up to make waves in Malaysia's SUV market with its second SUV, through the introduction of the upcoming OMODA C9, set to launch this December.

Positioned as a D-segment challenger, the C9 is expected to stand out with its impressive engine performance, cutting-edge safety features, and a suite of premium comforts—all while maintaining JAECOO’s signature competitive pricing. JAECOO said that the C9 is proudly made in Malaysia, at Chery's plant in Shah Alam where the JAECOO J7 is also assembled. 

For those unsure about its place within Chery Malaysia's group portfolio, the OMODA C9, being a premium model, has been positioned under the JAECOO brand to better align with its, high-end identity.

According to JAECOO, the coupe inspired SUV is set to redefine what Malaysians expect from premium SUVs, and they're proud to offer it at a price point that remains below RM200,000, said Emily Lek, JAECOO Malaysia's Vice President. With prices estimated at RM185,000 for the 2WD variant and RM195,000 for the AWD, they seem confident that the C9 will attract a wide range of buyers.

Building on the momentum from their earlier models, JAECOO Malaysia is taking their SUV game up a notch with the C9. Design and Versatile Performance

The C9 boasts a bold, futuristic exterior, highlighted by a diamond matrix grille and striking vertical sigma-shaped daytime running lights. LED adaptive headlights and an acoustic windshield ensure a quiet, comfortable ride. The vehicle's sleek design is further enhanced by keyless entry with NFC technology and flush door handles, adding both style and convenience.

With dimensions of 1,671mm in height, 1,920mm in width, and 4,775mm in length, along with a 2,800mm wheelbase, the C9 offers a commanding presence on the road. Its ground clearance of 165mm allows for water wading up to 450mm, ideal for adventurous drivers. Rolling on 20-inch alloy wheels and Michelin high-performance tires, the C9 is equipped with adaptive CDC suspension, providing excellent handling across varied terrain, thanks to the MacPherson strut and multilink rear suspension setup.

Powering the C9 is a 2.0 TGDI engine that delivers 257 horsepower and 400Nm of torque. Interestingly, the Malaysia OMODA C9 has an 8-speed automatic transmission while the global model has a7-speed dual clutch transmission. The SUV will come in two variants: a 2WD version with three driving modes and an AWD version featuring seven modes, enabling drivers to tackle both city streets and off-road trails. The rear boot offers an impressive storage capacity, expandable from 660 to 1,783 liters, making it a versatile option for families and adventure enthusiasts alike.

Safety and Comfort

Safety is not forgotten on the C9, starting with Continuous Damping Control (CDC), which adjusts the suspension in real time for a smoother ride. The SUV also includes a Level 2.5 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), featuring Blind Spot Detection, Door Opening Warning, and Lane Departure Prevention, among others. Additionally, the vehicle is built with 85% high-strength steel and comes equipped with eight airbags, ensuring robust occupant protection.

Inside, the C9 is all about luxury. Ambient lighting greets passengers as they step into the cabin, which features a stunning 24.6-inch HD display. The three-zone air conditioning system, equipped with an air quality and fragrance system, elevates in-cabin comfort. The center console is designed with practicality in mind, offering wireless charging and cooled storage.

For drivers, the C9 includes premium features such as paddle shifters, a heads-up display, and a driver monitoring system. The AWD variant also ups the entertainment factor, offering 14 speakers throughout the cabin, including personalized speakers in the driver’s seat for a truly immersive audio experience.

JAECOO is already accepting registrations of interest for the OMODA C9, with public roadshows planned for late October, giving Malaysians an early chance to experience this exciting new SUV before its December launch.

The C9 will be sold under the JAECOO brand which means that it will be in JAECOO showrooms nationwide and serviced there. JAECOO Malaysia said that it wants to provide a premium experience for C9 buyers.
