No more Toyota Raiza and Daihatsu Rocky for Japan
KUALA LUMPUR: Yes, that’s true. From now on Japan won’t have Toyota Raiza and Daihatsu Rocky for sale. Why? The reason is attributed to the car's failure in the safety tests.
Daihatsu which is a subsidiary of Toyota recently revealed that misconduct in the crash test was uncovered on the model that was intended for the Japanese market. This adds to the ongoing scandal surrounding the car. Thus, leading to an immediate halt of Rocky’s shipment and sales.
This reminds us of a similar misconduct involving Daihatsu vehicles for the international markets which was uncovered in April.
It should be noted that the chassis for the hybrid variant is affected, the rest remains safe and sound.
As of 18th May, the cumulative sales of the Rocky and Raize hybrid model stood at 22,329 units and 56,111 units respectively. Whether a recall will be issued for the affected vehicles is yet to be known.
The company’s president, Soichiro Okudaira, in an online press conference, stated that no safety issues have been identified yet, however, additional tests will soon be conducted. He also addressed the scandal saying the company will implement reforms and address the issue as a management problem.
