Nio ET9 electric sedan debuts in China with 900-volt electrical architecture

KUALA LUMPUR: The Chinese electric carmaker Nio unveiled its new executive flagship model, the ET9, at the recently held 2023 Nio Day in China. Set to hit the roads in the first quarter of 2025, the new Nio ET9 is priced at CNY 800,000 (approx RM 517k). It will rival the likes of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and Porsche Panamera.

- The EV measures 5,325 mm in length, 2,016 mm in width, 1,620 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 3,250 mm
- It is powered by two electric motors - a 245 PS induction motor at the front and a 462 PS permanent magnet unit with a silicon carbide inverter at the rear, combinedly making an impressive power of 707 PS
- What makes the new Nio electric sedan more interesting is its 900-volt electrical architecture. The automaker claimed that the ET9 is China’s first electric vehicle to employ this high-voltage electrical system
- The motors are fed by a 120 kWh battery pack. While the automaker did not reveal the range figures yet; it confirmed that the 900 V ultra-fast charging can provide a range of 255 kilometres after five minutes of charging
- The EV also features the SkyRide Intelligent Chassis System, which combines three systems namely, full active suspension, steer-by-wire, and rear-wheel steering
- In terms of design, the Nio ET9 boasts a sleek and contemporary look with 23-inch wheels and high ground clearance. It is fitted with several hi-tech gadgets like laser sensors on the sides and roof sides
- The futuristic cabin of the EV has an almost 2-metre-long console featuring a 10-litre fridge and foldable tables, offering passengers luxurious, first-class comfort.
- The rear seats offer relaxation with a recline of up to 45 degrees and include full-body massage programs for added comfort
- Other key interior highlights include - a large 15.6-inch infotainment unit, a head-up display, a digital virtual assistant screen, two 14.5-inch rear AMOLED touchscreens, an 8-inch tablet, and a split panoramic glass roof
- As for partially automated driving, the EV is equipped with the brand’s first self-developed system on chip (SoC), the Shenji NX9031
