Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser debut date confirmed
KUALA LUMPUR: The leaked images and video of the third-generation Land Cruiser SUV have been circulating over the internet for quite some time. Well, now there will be no more leaks as Toyota is set to unveil the new Land Cruiser tomorrow. It revealed a short teaser clip of the highly-anticipated SUV on online platforms and confirmed that the big debut will be streamed live on June 9, 2021, on Toyota Middle East YouTube for everyone to see.
While most of the secrets of the 300 Series Land Cruiser have been exposed through several leaks, the official blink-and-miss video shots show off its L-shaped LED tail lights clearly. Other revealed design bits in the clip are LED DRLs, bonnet contours, and the front grille. If we talk about upcoming Cruiser technical specs, Toyota did not spill the beans, but we do have leaked info in hand.
The leaked documents revealed that the new Cruiser will be based on the TNGA-F platform and its drivetrain will be mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission. The docs also disclosed that it will be available in three variants - GX-R, GR-S, and ZX. The base GX-R will equip a diesel mill under the bonnet, while the mid-spec GR-S and top-spec ZX will be offered in both gasoline and diesel engines.
While the details on the engines’ displacement and power figures are not available, the reports suggest a 3.3-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine generating maximum power of 306 PS and a peak torque of 700 Nm and a 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo petrol engine good for making 415 PS and 650 Nm.
Besides the technical specs, the Land Cruiser leaked images unveiled that the upcoming version will not see a dramatic departure from the current model in terms of exterior design. However, it will carry many significant upgrades inside the cabin. These include a new 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen display, rear-seat entertainment, a 14-speaker audio system, quad-zone automatic climate control, powered and ventilated seats, among other features.
After its global debut, the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser is expected to launch first in the Middle East and Japan, with deliveries beginning later this month.
