Next-gen Peugeot 308 SW made its debut in Europe
KUALA LUMPUR: The Peugeot 308 hatchback might be more popular in the European market but it does not mean that the long-roof option is not in demand. And, that’s why the Old continent gets the next-gen 308 SW, the estate version of the overhauled hatchback revealed earlier this year. The new wagon boasts an expressive styling with a racy profile and an ultra-modern interior without missing the customers’ expectations.
On the exterior, the new 2022 Peugeot 308 SW is identical to the hatch ahead of the B-pillars but the rear design sets them apart, The wagon gets a sophisticated rear end that “draws the eye to the extra space” provided by its larger body. Added to the changes are the dynamic silhouette and a different LED tail light bar which does not have a black dividing strip.
Dimensionally, the SW measures 4.64m in length and has a wheelbase of 2.73m. It offers a maximum boot volume of 608 litres, which is expandable up to 1634 litres with the seat fully folded. A motorised boot flap for easy access and a two-position boot floor is also available.
In terms of technology, the new 308 SW gets a new and improved PEUGEOT i-Cockpit just like the hatchback model. As per the automaker, the new cockpit delivers “a new experience with more ergonomics, design, driving pleasure, quality and connectivity”.
Added to the interior highlights are:
- A new compact steering wheel fitted with integrated controls and heated functionality
- A 3-D digital headset with a 10-inch digital display
- A 10-inch central touchscreen with the new PEUGEOT i-Connect Advanced infotainment system
- New i-toggles in place of the physical climate control panel
- Connectivity with four USB C sockets, wireless mirroring, and Bluetooth that can connect two phones at the same time
Riding on the EMP2 platform, the 308 SW comes with two plug-in hybrid powertrains. Both loaded with an 81-kW electric motor, an eight-speed AT, and a 12.4-kWh battery pack. However, the different engines produce 150 hp and 180 hp, translating into a combined output of 180 and 225 hp, respectively. The car can run around 60 kilometers (as per WLTP) on electric propulsion.
About its availability, Peugeot confirms that it will follow the hatchback towards the end of 2021 while the price is yet to be announced.
