Next-gen Mitsubishi ASX teased, will arrive in 2023
KUALA LUMPUR: In a recent media conference, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance presented its future roadmap that involves the introduction of 35 new electric vehicles by the end of the decade. Of which, one is the next-generation Mitsubishi ASX, which will be “based on Renault best-sellers”.

The upcoming compact SUV will underpin a Renault-developed platform and will adopt the vast majority of the French model’s DNA. While Mitsubishi has not yet announced the name of the donor model, the styling characteristics and size similarities hint at the Renault Captur based on the CMF-B platform.
With the new platform, the company will be able to offer the new Mitsubishi ASX with a number of engine options, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid and regular internal combustion engines. It may borrow 141 bhp hybrid and 158 bhp plug-in hybrid engines from the Captur. The former comes paired with a 1.2-kWh battery pack, while the latter has a 9.8 kWh battery pack with an all-electric range of 48 km.
Speaking about the conceptual teaser displayed at the event, it showcases the striking new front-end design language of the 2023 ASX. Key highlights include a new grille blending well into the headlight assemblies, a coupé-like roofline, and prominent wheel arches.
Closer to home, Mitsubishi does not sell the ASX SUV in Malaysia. However, the enthusiasts here are waiting for the new version of the top-selling Xpander that will soon hit the Thai market.
