New Volkswagen Tiguan sketches revealed
Kuala Lumpur: The elite German automaker Volkswagen has released official design sketches for the next generation Tiguan, which is going to debut this week at the Frankfurt Motor Show. From these sketches you can see that the new one is heavily influenced by Volkswagen's previous crossover concepts.
Volkswagen is looking to expand the new Tiguan's family to include seven-seat and coupe versions alongside the regular five-seat model. It's part of Volkswagen's plan to make the Tiguan appeal to a far wider audience than the first model, which was launched in 2007.
While these design sketches show a heavily stylised version of the Tiguan, it's clear the new model will take design inspiration from the Cross Coupe GTE concept, including the overall profile and the taillights shape.

As one would expect, the new Tiguan will be based on the MQB platform and will be slightly longer than its predecessor, featuring shorter overhangs. Under the bonnet, a range of TSI petrol and TDI diesel engines are expected to power the next-generation Tiguan. The range will likely kick off with a 2.0 litre TDI oil burner and a 1.8 litre TSI petrol engine unit. A 'R' variant with close to 300 HP could arrive in the near future along with a petrol-hybrid GTE model.

Another big change from the outgoing generation will be an addition of third row seat, effectively turning the new Tiguan into a seven-seater. Said seven-seater variant will be built at the company’s facility in Mexico, with units destined for the North and South American market as well as the rest of the world, except Europe and China.
