When will the Volkswagen ID.5 go on sale?
Volkswagen ID.5 is set to go on sale in the first half of 2022 in Europe. What powers the Volkswagen ID.5?
The Pro and Pro Performance variants of the ID.5 are equipped with a single motor setup delivering 128 kW and 150 kW. On the contrary, the ID.5 GTX has a dual motor setup delivering 220 kW.The Pro and Pro Performance variants of the ID.5 comprise the Standard trim level of the electric crossover. Both these variants get a single motor setup delivering 128 kW in the ID.5 Pro and 150 kW in the ID.5 Pro Performance. While the top speed of both these variants is the same at 160 kmph, the 0-100 kmph sprint times for Pro and Pro Performance are different at 10.4 seconds and 8.4 seconds respectively.
The other trim of the Volkswagen ID.5, the ID.5 GTX, gets an all-wheel-drive configuration with a dual motor setup, the combined power output of which is rated at 220 kW. This high-performance version of the ID.5 covers 0-100 kmph sprint in 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 180 kmph.
The new Volkswagen ID.5 shares its MEB platform and 77 kWh battery pack with the ID.4. However, unlike the ID.4 which is available with multiple battery options, the 77 kWh battery pack is the only battery option made available for the ID.5. Volkswagen is claiming maximum driving ranges of 520 km for the ID.5 Pro and ID.5 Pro Performance and 480 km for the ID.5 GTX.
The sloping coupe-like roofline of the Volkswagen ID.5 brings along an improved drag coefficient of 0.26 (0.02 better than that of ID.4). However, the same thing works against the ID.5 when it comes to boot space, which at 549 litres is much lesser than the 848-litres of boot capacity of the ID.4.
On the inside, things between the new Volkswagen ID.5 and the ID.4 are no different, with the former retaining the dashboard layout with the same infotainment system and full TFT driver display of the latter. Apart from the added performance, the GTX variants also bring along a few trim badges on the inside over the Standard variants.
