New Mitsubishi Outlander to share Nissan plug-in hybrid power
KUALA LUMPUR: The ongoing Mitsubishi Outlander has started to show age. The car has been on sale since 2014, and it’s about time for the Japanese automaker to revamp its compact crossover.
The good news is that it won’t be long before we see the next-gen Outlander. Last year in September, we got a slight glimpse of the car via the spied testing images. Also, Mitsubishi confirmed its 2020 arrival a while back. The information about the new Outlander is scarce at the moment, however, we expect its design language to showcase a modern yet rugged look.
What we do know is that the next-gen Outlander will share its underpinning with the soon to debut Nissan Rouge. Both the crossovers will be supported by a platform built by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.
As per a report by Automotive News, the next-gen Outlander will get a Nissan engine under its hood, thus making it the first Mitsubishi vehicle using a Nissan powertrain. The information sourced from Nikkei, a Japanese business daily. If true, it would reflect a deeper alliance between the two Japanese auto manufactures, supporting the current strategy of cost-cutting through sharing product development.
