New Front Split View Camera developed by Ford
KUALA LUMPUR: According to the observation of European Road Safety, 19 percent of accidents occur due to the hindrance of the drivers’ view. A new Front Split View Camera has been developed by Ford which has features of 180-degree view used to approach traffic at blind junctions. Through this, drivers can easily view any cyclists, pedestrians and vehicles on an 8-inch colour touchscreen embedded inside the car.
“From sunrise to sunset we tested the Front Split View Camera on all kinds of roads, congested urban streets and areas with a lot of cyclists and pedestrians. Tackling tunnels, narrow alleys and garages in all light conditions also meant we could ensure the technology worked well even when sunlight was shining directly into the camera,” told by Ronny Hause, Ford Driver Assisance Electronic Systems Engineer.
Front Split View Camera which has 33 mm wide display has 1-megapixel camera which is planted on the front grille. It is used to offer an 180-degree view of approaching traffic through its 8-inch infotainment screen. According to the Ford, first to own this new feature as an option will be Galaxy and S-Max vehicles.
“For some, simply driving off their own driveways is a challenge. Much like rear-view cameras, Front Split View Camera is one of those technologies that people will soon wonder how they managed without”.
There is an availability of this system for a cost of £400 in the new Ford Edge SUV going to be launched in Europe later this year.
