New base-spec Suzuki Jimny Lite arrives in Australia
KUALA LUMPUR: After the launch of the popular Swift Sport, Suzuki Malaysia is gearing up to introduce the all-new Jimny on the local shores. To be precise, its arrival is scheduled to take place somewhere in the second half of 2021. But, while we are waiting for the popular off-roader, the Australian market gets its new base-spec variant, called the Jimny Lite.
Being an entry-level model, the new SUV gets an obvious cut on the premium features and creature comforts to keep cost in check. It will hit the showrooms on August 1, this year.
Starting the details with the exterior, the 2021 Suzuki Jimny Lite gets the same rugged design with different styling components. It gets simple halogen units for the projector headlamps, blacked-out side mirrors, and 15-inch steel wheels in place of 15-inch alloys. The fog lamps and a spare wheel cover are also missing on the Jimny Lite specs sheet.
Inside the cabin, the base-spec model is fitted with a 2-DIN infotainment unit with USB and Bluetooth connectivity instead of the 7-inch Smartplay unit available in higher models. Further, we can see manual air-conditioning controls rather than automatic. It also misses out on cruise control.
Unlike exterior and interior, Suzuki kept the Jimny Lite under the hood configuration unchanged. This means the base-spec model gets the power from a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit delivering a maximum power output of 102 PS and a peak torque of 130 Nm at 4000 rpm. The only available transmission option is a 5-speed manual. Also, part of the kit is a 4WD system with a low-range transfer case that assists in challenging off-road terrain.
Although the new Jimny Lite does not have an impressive feature list, the brand’s General Manager, Michael Pachota, said "We're giving people what they want – more Jimnys!"
Well, Suzuki has not revealed the Jimny Lite price tag yet. For reference, the 2021 Jimny manual is priced at $28,490 (excluding on-road costs) in the country, which is approximately equal to RM 88,745.
