Mitsubishi XFC SUV concept made its world premiere in Vietnam

KUALA LUMPUR: It was no secret that Mitsubishi has been working on a new B-segment SUV that will rival the likes of the established players in the auto arena like the Honda HR-V, Kia Seltos, and Mazda CX-3. Well, the Japanese automaker has now pulled the wraps off this compact SUV in a prototype form, called the XFC Concept.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What does the Mitsubishi XFC look like?

Mitsubishi’s new SUV concept, the XFC, features a muscular look with bulging arches and sharp creases, chunky bumpers and cladding. The interior flaunts a unique orange and white theme kitted with a multi-layered dashboard.
  • When will the Mitsubishi XFC launch?

The Mitsubishi XFC will first go on sale in Vietnam in 2023, followed by other ASEAN markets.
  • Mitsubishi’s new concept vehicle will be on display at the upcoming Vietnam Motor Show 2022 (October 26 to 30). It will first go on sale in Vietnam, followed by other ASEAN markets, and is likely to hit Africa and South America at a later stage.

"We will launch the new compact SUV sequentially in the ASEAN markets including Vietnam in the fiscal year 2023," said Takao Kato, President and Chief Executive Officer, Mitsubishi Motors.

Let’s check out the key highlights of the new Mitsubishi XFC Concept -

With a muscular design language, the concept vehicle boasts bulging arches and sharp creases all around. The front is kitted with a large grille edged by boomerang-shaped LED headlights and louvre-like LED daytime running lights. We can also notice a front skid plate integrated into the front bumper, which carries rally-style hexagonal forms with illuminated surrounds.

Moving to the rear fascia, here we see T-shaped tail lights and a chunky bumper with sort of illuminated shapes available on the front. Further adding to the impressive road presence of the vehicle are unrealistically large rims and chunky cladding.

Regarding the drivetrain of the Mitsubishi XFC, no such information has yet been provided by the automaker except mentioning the four driving modes (Normal, Wet, Gravel, and Mud) and electrification plans. "In the future, we plan to add an electrified variant to the lineup and to also roll it out in regions outside ASEAN,” said the company's head.

The Japanese SUV has a unique orange and white theme interior kitted with a multi-layered dashboard. The latter comprises a dual-screen set-up, one for the digital instrument cluster and another for the infotainment unit. According to the automaker, the cabin is designed with keeping the factors like overall visibility and practicality in mind.
