Mitsubishi to suspand Pajero production admist Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic
KUALA LUMPUR: Several Japanese automakers last week announced scaling back or temporarily halting the production line due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The main reason for doing so aside from breaking the spreading chain of the deadly virus and protection of the workforce seems to be a decline in the global market.
Joining the list of the automakers now is Mitsubishi Motors. The announcement by Mitsubishi followed that of its alliance partner company Nissan. The automaker said it would be temporarily stopping the production at three of its plants located in Japan. The reason is the same- controlling the spread of the deadly virus and its ill-effects on the global automotive industry.
The three Mitsubishi plants part of temporary production suspension are -
- Okazaki Plant in Aichi
- Pajero Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in Gifu
- 2nd production line at the Mizushima Plant in Okayama
The plant to first stop its production will the Mizushima Plant in Okayama, starting from April 6 to April 23. The Mitsubishi factory to follow would be the Okazaki Plant from April 9, and it will remain close till April 17. As for the Pajero Manufacturing Co., Ltd. plant in Gifu, its door will remain shut from April 13 to April 20.
