Mitsubishi introduces 2021 Mirage G4 sedan and hatch version in the US
KUALA LUMPUR: After Thailand and the Australian market, the U.S. gets its fair share of affordable and reliable commute options from Mitsubishi, in the form of the 2021 Mirage. However, unlike the version in Southeast Asia markets, this one here gets a much more solid safety kit.
Also, a new Carbonite Edition trim has been added to the Mirage lineup that features some unique exterior elements, differentiating it from the rest. For instance, it gets a front spoiler, Sparco alloy wheels, rear bumper skirts, side skirts, red and fake carbon fibre highlights.
Furthermore, the Mitsubishi US has added both the Mirage sedan (G4) and hatch version in its lineup. Both of which feature the brand's Dynamic Shield design language that until now was reserved for the Mitsubishi premium sedan and SUVs.
Speaking of the 2021 Mirage exterior design, both the models get a new, attractive front fascia that includes a massive grille with bold chrome trims of the sides, wide headlamps, angular fog lamp casing, and squared-off bumper edges.
The side features a neat look that's complemented by two crips creases and prominent wheel arches with 15-inch alloy wheels. The rear end gets revised LED taillights with L-shaped graphics, a revised rear bumper with vertical reflectors, and a diffuser-like insert. The range-topping Mirage SE model will feature LED projector headlights paired with DRLs.
On the inside, the revisions are limited to the fabric door trim, redesigned armrest, and faux carbon fibre window switch surrounds. Taking care of passengers' connectivity needs is a 7-inch infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
Under the hood configuration remains unchanged with the car still powered by a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated three-cylinder mill pumping out a maximum power of 78 hp and a peak torque of 100 Nm. Sending power to the wheels is either a five-speed manual gearbox or a CVT unit. The latter gearbox option delivers 16.67 kmpl of fuel economy. Furthermore, Mitsubishi US claims the Mirage to be the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid petrol car in the country.
Coming to the most important aspect of the car, the safety kit. As mentioned earlier, the U.S model gets far more safety gears compared to the ones offered in the Southeast Asia market. The list includes - seven airbags, stability control, autonomous emergency brake, auto high beam, and lane departure warning. Note the last two features are limited to the range-topping SE model.
